This Week At Ascension

Called to create opportunities for all people to become devoted followers of Christ

February 5, 2023

.

Grace and peace to you my family in Christ,

I pray that your week is going well.

Did you know that you are the light of the world and the salt of the earth?  I know that you have probably heard that one before.  But have you deeply considered it lately in all the busyness and distraction of everyday life?

You are God’s plan to “repair the breach and restore the street.”  No, not someone more capable, gifted or with more resources than you.  You.  Or, actually, I should say, we.  We are.

In her book “Life Abundant,” Theologian Sally McFague said it this way:  “If God is absent from this world, it is because we are.”

So, how are we present?  Even in the little ways?  Let’s talk more about this at worship this weekend!

Blessings,

Woodworkers wanted!

After a long hiatus we are ready to resume making the faith chests that we give out to celebrate baptisms.  All skill levels are needed.

You can help even if it’s just being an extra pair of hands.

If you are interested contact the church office at 805-495-0406,  or

High School Seniors – LAST Call for Faith Quilts!

The Faith Quilt Milestone Comes in June, and We Need to Prepare Soon!

Each year we celebrate high school seniors the first Sunday in June with the gift of a faith quilt. Because these take time to prepare and create, we need to know by Tuesday February 6 if you’re interested. Please email Dianne Beck, Youth Director ASAP if you’re interested in receiving a quilt so we can make sure to have this beautiful and meaningful milestone ready for you.

Calling All Quilters!

Are you someone with the beautiful gift of sewing and quilting? If so, we would love to have you help with our High School Faith Quilt Milestone. Each year we celebrate our high school seniors with the gift of a Faith Quilt. They are such a cherished and beautiful keepsake to carry with them as they move on to new schools, new jobs, and new places. They receive these quilts in June, but the process of creating them begins in the next month. If you’d like to help, please contact Dianne Beck, Youth Director, at .

Staff Accountant Wanted

If you are an accountant interested in joining the Ascension team, we’d love to hear from you! Click HERE for details of this position.

Get a MOOOve on!

Hoof it over to Ascension Thursday, Feb 9th (1-3 PM) and Sunday, Feb 12th (10-10:10 AM) at the West Narthex Patio and get some scrumptious Red Barn Cheese before the stampede!

Thanks to arrangements made by Equal Exchange, our Fair Trade partner, we have this special opportunity to feast on the cheese everyone talks about, direct from happy and well-cared for cows in Wisconsin.

Crackers and pita chips go great with cheese… we’ve got those too along with other Fair Trade treats. Of course it’s Fair Trade; we believe in going the Holstein nine yards for products made with respect for people and planet —  cud it’s the right thing to do.

Our Food Pantry Needs Help

As anyone who’s shopped in recent months knows, food prices have gone way up! Our Ascension Food Pantry has more clients than in the past, and is running out of items more quickly. At the same time, donations have been down.

With the food squeeze on, we especially need your contributions. This graphic, from Food Pantry Coordinator Chris Clark, details what our pantry needs most. Please remember the pantry when you shop, like when you see those BOGO and half-off deals.

We thank all our great Pantry volunteers, who give a couple of hours at a time to help serve our local people in need. We join Chris in thanking Bob Tokin for all of his assistance (he stocks and shops for the pantry). If you’re interested in getting involved, please reach out to Chris (), or sign up HERE.

Offerings & Attendance

Our Prayer

We pray that you may once again meet the Risen Christ through the Word and Sacrament ministry, and through the fellowship of this family of faith.

If you do not have a church home, we would like to invite you to worship with our Ascension family again.

All people who are baptized and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

May God bless you in your worship!

Pastors Tim Delkeskamp, Steve Herder, & Julie McCain
